This chapter is great and again so dense. First off, HUGE kudos for the brilliant battle sequence. It's very well done and excellent action writing. And then, oh poor Susan and that ghastly, ghastly dinner party. So Lune wanted to marry her! Oh be still my poor heart. SO SAD. And all those lords circling about with Queen Susan going courting -- which is a great break from the usual trope but also so sad because on the one she's doing it for Narnia, for another she's doing this only to get information, but there's this little sliver of romanticism that wants happiness.
And then the boys in the cider house with Edmund getting drunk and stoned and the cantos. OMG the cantos are brilliant. I loved it. I love it the first time I read it and more the second. It is brilliant how the boys use this to get information and a wonderful way to learn what the real sentiment is. It's just terrific. Oh Ed.... you are a mess.
